Confederate cent restrike obv2

A restrike of a Confederate coin.

A restrike is a coin struck using original dies of a coin after the minting of the original coin ceased. One reason restrikes are made is because the original coin is extremely rare or was produced in limited quantities, such as coins from the Confederate States of America. Another reason is that the original dies were used at a later date, but the date on the die was never changed. In addition, restrikes may be used in museums if the price of the original is too expensive.
