Kydonia or Cydonia (Greek: Κυδωνία) was an important Ancient Greek city-state located on the northwest coast of Crete, at the site of the modern-day city of Chania.[1]

NumismaticsEdit

Main article: Coins of Kydonia

Like many of the ancient Greek city-states, Kydonia issued its own drachma-denominated coins, with each drachma consisting of six oboloi.[2] Some of Kydonia's coins were overstamped coins initially intended for use in the neighboring city-state of Aegina,[3] while others, which were Kydonian issues, displayed depictions of Greek mythological figures, including the gods Artemis, Athena, and Dionysus.[4]
