The Hungarian Mint Ltd. (Hungarian: Magyar Pénzverő Zrt.) is the only operational mint in Hungary that issues coins of the Hungarian forint.

History[]

The Hungarian mint

The mint.

During 1328, King Charles I established numerous mints, the most prominent of which was the Körmöcbánya Mint, established in now-day Kremnica, Slovakia. After World War I, after several years of minting, the Körmöcbánya Mint was taken apart and transported to Budapest, Hungary, where it was once again established, but this time under the name of the Hungarian Royal Mint.

After the pengő was demonetized, the mint continued operating under the name of the Hungarian State Mint, striking coins of the new forint currency. During 1992, this mint became a company that was limited by shares. Since 1998, the National Bank of Hungary (NBH) has been the owner of the Hungarian Mint Ltd. In the year 2001, NBH Coin Trading Ltd. was merged into the mint. In 2008, the mint moved to the Cash Logistic Center of the Hungarian National Bank. Since that time, the mint can be found in the center of Budapest at the National Bank headquarters.
