The German South-West African mark (German: Deutsch-Südwestafrikanische Mark) was the currency used by German South-West Africa, a colony of the German Empire from 1884 to 1915. Until 1914, it circulated alongside the German gold mark. Only a few days after the beginning of World War I, paper money was issued in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 mark. Even though the territory was ceded by South Africa during 1915 and the mark was officially replaced with the South African pound, the Windhoek Chamber of Commerce issued Gutscheine notes denominated in pfennige and mark from 1916 to 1918.
