Biography[]

Georg Malin was born on February 8, 1926, in Mauren to Josef (1891–1981) and Hildegard Malin (1896–1987). He attended school at the Disentis Monastery in Graubünden until 1947, and then studied history, art history, archaeology, and philosophy from 1947 to 1952 at the University of Zürich and University of Fribourg. During the period from 1947 to 1949, he was also taught to sculpt, paint, and draw at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich.

From 1954 to 1978, Malin held a variety of political positions, including lay judge of the Supreme Court of Liechtenstein (1954–1966), Member of the Landtag (1966–1974), and Minister for Environment and Culture (1974–1978). He also conducted various excavations in and around Liechtenstein, and served as the first curator of the Liechtenstein State Art Collection in Vaduz from 1968 to 1996.

Malin's artistic career began in 1952, working as an art instructor for two years before becoming a freelance artist in 1954. He has produced several sculptures, paintings, and drawings during his lifetime, and was responsible for designing around 100 Liechtenstein stamps from 1963 to 2006. Around 1988, he also designed commemorative 10 and 50 frank coins celebrating the 50th anniversary of the reign of Prince Franz Joseph II (1906–1989; r. 1938–1989).
