The Lesotho loti (code: LSL; symbol: L or M; plural: maloti) is the currency of Lesotho. It is divided into 100 lisente (singular: sente). The loti is pegged to the South African rand at par through the Common Monetary Area, and both currencies are accepted as legal tender within Lesotho. It was first introduced in 1966, though it was an uncirculated currency. In 1980, the first loti and lisente coins were produced to replace the rand as legal tender.

In 1980, banknotes dated 1979 were introduced in denominations of 2, 5, and 10 maloti, bearing the name, Lesotho Monetary Authority. In 1981, this was changed to Central Bank of Lesotho on the new issues, and the new 20 and 50 maloti banknotes. In 1994, 100 and 200 maloti banknotes were introduced. During 2010, the 10, 20, 50, and 100 maloti banknotes were redesigned, while the 200 maloti note still bears its 1994 design.
Coins[]

In 1966, a number of maloti and lisente pattern coins were produced in denominations of 5, 10, 20, and 50 lisente, and 2, 4, 10 and 20 maloti. During 1980, coins dated 1979 were put into circulation, having denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, and 50 lisente, and 1 loti. In 1996, 2 and 5 maloti coins were put into circulation, followed by 20 maloti in 1998. The only of these coins not found in circulation today is the 20 loti coin.
There have been a number of commemorative coins produced in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 50, 100, 200, 250, and 500 maloti.
