The dollar banknote was printed by the Continental Congress in 1776 for use in the Thirteen Colonies in British America. It was equal to about 0.33 dollars.

The note was printed using black ink, but the signatures of officials and the serial numbers were oftentimes red. It measured 62 millimeters in width by 79 millimeters in height. On the obverse was the sun and a sundial with the "FUGIO" legend and the "MIND YOUR BUSINESS" motto, along with the value. Displayed on the reverse was a chain with 13 links, representing the 13 Colonies. In the center of this chain was the "WE ARE ONE" motto. The banknote was designed by printer and diplomat, Benjamin Franklin.
