A Commemorative coin is a coin intended to remember, memorialize, or honor (that is, commemorate) a person, place, event, idea, or, well, anything.
There are two main types of commemorative coins:
- Coins not intended to circulate, commonly called non-circulating legal tender (NCLT).
- Commemorative coins intended to circulate along with non-commemorative coins. An example is the US America the Beautiful Quarters.
